Let’s Take a Look at Bucket List Bike Rides
Since the release of “long Way Round” in 2007, motorcycle enthusiasts have dreamed of hopping on whatever bike could carry them and exploring the twisted roads of freedom. While Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman had the luxury of a backup crew and a decent budget, they created a spark that has pushed sales of adventure touring bikes and sent many a man speeding into the wild. While most of us have an idea of where out next big ride should be, we thought we would take a look at some of the best rides in the world.
The Great Ocean Road, Australia
180 miles of pure freedom and as exciting as the AFL footy betting at https://bettingsitesonline.net.au/afl, the Great Ocean Road is one of the best one-day rides you will ever do. Heading out from Melbourne and winding its way to Petersbrough, the road takes you along some of the best surfing beaches in the country, past shoreline rainforests and rugged coastlines. There flat stretch of tar is beautifully maintained offering spectacular views of sunken shipwrecks and limestone pinnacles peeking out of the waves.
Bergen to Andalsnes, Norway
It is no secret that Norway is a biking Nirvana with sweeping scenery, majestic fjords and skies that could swallow you whole. The Fjordland explorer (280 miles) starts in Bergen and makes it way to Gudvangern where you hop on a ferry and slide past the Narelandsford, the deepest and longest fjord in the world. After Belstrand, the road climbs to Gualfjell and Mskog. Another Ferry in Eidstal links to Trollstigen where you emerge and zigzag your way through the mountains to the Andalsness.
Cape Town Circuit, South Africa
South Africa is a dream destination for adventure riders. Magnificent weather, breathtaking views, good roads and friendly people, all make the fly-and-ride trip a must. The Cape Town circuit is a pleasant 1000-mile loop that starts and ends in the “Mother City”. From Cape Town, the road heads east, then north over Olifantsklip pass to the famous Addo National park. The long flat stretches across the Great Karoo gives you a chance to open the throttle before arriving at the Little Karoo mountings via Route 62. Robertson heralds the arrival of the Winelands and then back to Cape Town.
The Pyrenees, France and Spain
At 1500 miles, the Pyrenees loop from Bilbao to Biarritz is a true biking adventure for both experienced riders and novices. The scenery alone is worth the trip, plus the road has some serious mountain worming. Leaving Bilbao, the road spins east along the N260 towards La Seu d’Urgell. Winding north to Andorra, you eventually drop back into Spain for another 30 miles of awesome twisties to Ripoli then Figueres. After hitting the French Mediterranean coast, the road heads through the narrow mountain pass of Col D’ Aspin to Biarritz.
Los Angeles to California, USA
One of the most iconic rides in the world; the 3500-mile journey from LA to California is on just about everyone’s bucket list. Route 66 heads through the Grand Canyon, through the Mojave Desert and Yosemite National Park with plenty of views along the way.
